Pomeranian Information
Pomeranian Description:The exact origin of the Pomeranian is unknown. However, the breed gets its name from the region of Pomerania where the breed gained in popularity. The region of Pomerania is the present day northern parts of Germany and Poland. The breed was derived from the Spitz variety and was originally used as a farm dog. However, during the reign of Queen Victoria, the breed was purposely bred small in size which resulted in present day Pomeranian over a period of time. The breed gained immense popularity during the reign of Queen Victoria as it was sported by most members of the royal family. The popularity of the breed continues to this day. It was first recognized by the AKC in 1888. |
