Clumber Spaniel Information
Clumber Spaniel Description:The origin of the Clumber Spaniel lies in Clumber Park, England. However, the exact history of this dog breed remains uncertain. The Clumber Spaniel is believed to be a result of cross breeding between Bassett Hound, Alpine Spaniel and Saint Bernard. A theory pertaining to the origin of this breed suggests that the Duke of France, at the time of the French Revolution, gave his set of Spaniels to the Duke of Newcastle, where they were perfected and hence, the Clumber Spaniel was born. It was primarily used for hunting birds like pheasant and partridge. The breed was first recognized by the AKC in 1884. |
